RSM Engage member magazine: April 2021 issue

Welcome to the April 2021 issue of RSM Engage, the digital magazine for members of the Royal Society of Medicine.

The long-term consequences of the pandemic on the mental health of our children and young people is the focus of an article by journalist Ronnie Haydon, who was invited to preview a series of events hosted by the Psychiatry Section in collaboration with the mental health charity Mind.

In the first of our new Day in the life of… series, critical care nurse Moira Durbridge, President of the RSM’s Patient Safety Section, offers a glimpse into her world of organisational transformation and quality improvement at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

Palliative care specialist Dr David Jeffrey discusses how studying Shakespeare might be the route to restoring the human face of medicine, while veterinary surgeon Dr Martha Bower explains why those working in human health should be concerned about the health of other animals and the environment.

There’s an update on the RSM’s important new series on climate change, a reminder of approaching prize application deadlines for students and trainees and a round-up of Society news. Finally, there’s a preview of some great spring shopping offers available exclusively to RSM members.
