Eight early-career doctors have been awarded the 2025 Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellowships, a prestigious award that supports specialist training abroad.
Offering grants of up to £15,000, the Fellowships support UK-based doctors to gain international clinical, academic or research experience that will benefit their careers and NHS services.
The 2025 Fellows will travel to leading institutions in Australia, the USA and Canada to undertake placements in fields ranging from head and neck cancer surgery to drug allergy research.

Dr Thomas Kite, interventional cardiology (Australia)
Mr Amir Saam Youshani, complex epilepsy neurosurgery (Canada)
Mr Jason Yuen, functional neurosurgery (Canada)
Applications for the 2026 Ellison-Cliffe Travelling Fellowship are now open. UK-based doctors at specialist registrar or lecturer grade, or within three years of their first consultant appointment, are eligible to apply. Awards of up to £15,000 are available for placements abroad lasting six months or more.
Successful candidates will be expected to submit a written report and present their experience at an RSM educational event.

The annual Ellison-Cliffe Lecture will return this autumn, featuring Henry Dimbleby – campaigner, author and co-founder of Leon and Riverford Organic Farmers – as guest speaker. He will address the theme of Public Health, Policy and the Future of Medicine.
The event will also feature a panel discussion with previous Ellison-Cliffe Fellows, who will share stories of their international training, the impact on their careers, and the future of global health collaboration.
