New Trustees and President-Elect begin terms
A new President-Elect and three new Trustees will take up their roles at the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) next week.
From 1 October 2023, Professor Gillian Leng CBE officially becomes President-Elect – alongside her role as Dean of Education - ahead of her taking over as RSM President in July 2024. Her election win in June 2023 means she will become the first RSM President to have been voted in by the membership.
The elections earlier this year also decided three new Trustees to join the RSM Council. Starting their three-year terms on 1 October 2023, they are:
- Professor David Oliver
- Dr Siân Rees
- Dr Sarah Clarke (Trainee Trustee)
Professor Roger Kirby, current RSM President, said: “I am very much looking forward to working with our three new Trustees, and of course even more closely with Gill, in pursuit of our shared ambition to ensure the RSM’s future is as vibrant and successful as its history.
“There is a wealth of expertise and experience right across our Council and I am truly grateful for their continued energy and commitment to the RSM.”
The three Trustee vacancies were created by Professor Melita Irving and Dr Hélène Menagé’s terms ending, and by Dr Hiten Patel stepping down as Trainee Trustee. We’d like to record our sincere gratitude to our three outgoing Trustees for their dedicated service during their terms.
