RSM welcomes new members

New members of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) met the Charity’s leaders and toured the facilities at a special reception last night (7 March 2023).

Around 50 recently joined members and their guests attended 1 Wimpole Street in central London for the latest new member reception, which is held a few times a year to help newcomers make the most of their RSM membership.

Among those attending last night was Judith Potts, founder of the charity Esme’s Umbrella, which raises awareness of the little-known Charles Bonnet Syndrome. The condition causes distressing visual hallucinations in those losing their sight and is believed to affect around a million people. As a non-medical professional leading a healthcare-related charity, she only recently became aware that she was eligible for associate membership of the RSM. She has joined the RSM to make new connections and further the aims of her charity.

Judith Potts, founder of Esme’s Umbrella, with RSM President Professor Roger Kirby and RSM Chief Executive Michele Acton.

Other new members who attended included clinical academics, consultants, GPs, hypnotherapists, medical and nursing students, pharmacists, scientists, surgeons and trainees.

Following welcome drinks and networking, Professor Roger Kirby welcomed the new members and spoke about what makes the RSM special. Angie Corkhill, interim Director of Engagement, then set out some of the unique benefits of RSM membership, before the group had tours of the Club and Library facilities. Members then had the opportunity to ask RSM staff and leaders about anything else related to RSM membership.
