Baroness Sally Greengross remembered

One of the world’s leading age advocates, Baroness Sally Greengross, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, has died. Her commitment, knowledge and alliances to improve the care and treatment of older people made her an inspiration to members of the Royal Society of Medicine Geriatrics & Gerontology Section, whose former president, Dr Mashkur Khan, nominated her in 2017 for her RSM Honorary Fellowship.

Baroness Greengross recently stepped down as chief executive of the International Longevity Centre, which she founded twenty-five years ago while Director-General of the charity Age Concern.

An independent member of the House of Lords since 2000, Baroness Greengross previously co-chaired All-Party Parliamentary Groups including Dementia, Corporate Social Responsibility, Bladder and Bowel Continence Care, and Ageing and Older People.

Professor Roger Kirby, President of the Royal Society of Medicine, said: “Sally Greengross was an enormously influential figure, committed to human rights and equality across the globe. Her death will be keenly felt by all who knew her, and we send our condolences to her family, friends and former colleagues.”
