JRSM editor Dr Kamran Abbasi joins HSJ BAME power list

Dr Kamran Abbasi, editor of the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, has been named in the HSJ Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Power List. The list identifies the top 50 BAME individuals who the judges considered would exercise the greatest power and influence in the world of English health in the 12 months running from July 2020 to June 2021.

Dr Abbasi, who is also currently executive editor at The BMJ, studied medicine at Leeds University and spent five years working in hospital medicine before moving into medical journalism. He has written widely about key issues around covid-19, both for the BMJ and in his editorials for JRSM, which are included in a special collection, Spotlight on COVID-19, where all JRSM covid-19 papers are free to access.

Earlier this year, he was appointed honorary visiting professor at the Department of Primary Care and Public Health at Imperial College. He is a cricket enthusiast and writes for cricket publications including Dawn and Wisden. He also recently published a book, 'Englistan: An immigrant's journey on the turbulent winds of Pakistan cricket'.
